Over 20, 000 children’s book titles are published every year in the United States. This growing number is only for books published by traditional publishers, and not counting titles that are self-published. New books are coming out all the time, it is very difficult to keep up.

Children’s Books

With the holidays behind us, our staff took time to look at the past year’s published titles and narrowed down our top choices. Here’s our recommended must-read children’s books of 2018.

Do Not Lick This Book*

The book teaches kids about microbes through humor and beautiful illustrations. Baby Monkey is a full-time private eye. Help him solve cases by looking for the clues embedded in this picture book with oversized text— best for beginner readers. Kids will be entertained by the humor and drawings and inspired by the adventures of Baby Monkey.

Be Prepared

Readers can’t help but be hopeful for Vera, a Russian girl from the suburbs, and the new kid at summer camp. Has she found the one place she can fit in or is the camp far from what she imagined? Be Prepared is based on the author Vera Brosgol’s experience at a Russian summer camp.

The Wall in the Middle of the Book

What lurks behind the wall in the middle of this book? Is it a tiger? A rhino? Or maybe a big bad ogre ready to gobble our hero knight? Wait, but what if the danger is not behind the wall? The Wall in the Middle of the Book will question young readers’ original fears, and help realize that the help that one may needs might just be on the other side.

The books listed were carefully chosen from a long list of recommendations from parents, friends, the internet, and kids!
