PONYANG HALOBAYBAY’S 90TH ANNIVERSARY with Ian Velasquez (Philippines)
“Ponyang Halobaybay” is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. Created in 1932 by the Father of PH Komiks, Tony Velasquez, Ponyang first appeared on Liwayway Magazine’s pages alongside Kenkoy and many more early characters. Ian will discuss how this historical figure has impacted today’s pop culture landscape. We can all learn something new from him—and maybe even find some inspiration.

FERNGESPRÄCH: ABOUT MOTHERS & MONSTERS with Sheree Domingo (Germany)
In this panel, the audience will hear about a graphic novel by Fil-German author Sheree Domingo and her collaborative book with Patrick Spät. “Long Distance Call” combines topics such as Filipino labor migration, care work, or loneliness in old age while also being half autobiographical and fictionalized.

THE FIRST STEPS TOWARD A COMPREHENSIVE DATABASE OF FILIPINO KOMIKS with Tristan Lapoussiere (France)
Join Tristan Lapoussiere, a researcher and collector of Filipino comics from 1946 to the early 2000s, as he shares his research on this topic. He will give an outline for creating digital archives capable of preservation.
