The Indie Publishers Collab-PH (TIPC-PH) will launch its first-ever online convention this November 19-23, 2021. The theme of this year’s convention, “Claiming Indie Spaces in Challenging Times,” is an attempt to expand the literary horizons of the independent publishing community in the Philippines.
INDIEPUBCON 2021 will be a five-day event sponsored by the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and is the combined effort of numerous independent publishers in the Philippines. This year’s publisher team includes 8Letters, Aklat Alamid, Alubat Publishing, Balangay Productions, Kasingkasing Press, Librong Lira, Rebo Press Book Publishing and Southern Voices Printing Press. Additional event collaborators include the CCP Intertextual Division, AILAP (Ateneo Institute of Literary Arts and Practices), PaperKat Publishing, Gantala Press, Savage Mind Bookshop, 7Eyes Production, Cavite Young Writers Association, and Ungaz Press. INDIEPUBCON 2021 endeavors to become the first of many future events that will provide both the venue and platform for current and prospective aspiring publishers and writers to collaborate and convene. The schedule of the event is as follows:
- Friday to Monday, November 19 to 22 (6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.)
- Tuesday, November 23 (1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Among the highlights of INDIEPUBCON 2021 are “The Journey from Being a Writer to a Publisher” (to be presented by Edgar Samar of Santinakpan and Katrina Olan of Tablay,) “Indie on the Cutting Edge” (with a discussion by Kristian Cordero of Savage Minds Bookshop), “The Evolution of Indie Publishing: From Physical to Digital Spaces” (to be presented by numerous cultural workers and organizers from 8Letters, Rebo Press Book Publishing and Vox Populi PH), and “Pagbali sa Utos ng Hari: Malayang Paglalathala bilang Dayalogo Kontra-Gahum” – a Jun Cruz Reyes Roundtable, joined by Allan Derain, Ronaldo Vivo, Jr. and Natalya Patolot.
