The Department of Education (DepEd) welcomed the inclusion of Globe eLibrary to the DepEd Commons to enhance its readily-available English subject content in an effort to further bridge literacy gaps.

DepEd and Globe hope that this breakthrough will help Filipino learners enhance their English reading and comprehension skills while also enriching their distant learning experience.

“DepEd Commons will consistently cater to the evolving and fast-changing needs of Filipino learners to meet whatever situation arises. We welcome this added feature as we aim to continuously develop our platform to better serve our learners and teachers,” Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del Pascua said.

Globe e-Library’s materials (https://globeelibrary.ph/) will be available on the DepEd Commons (commons.deped.gov.ph), the Department’s open educational resources (OER) platform to support the distance learning implementation.

With physical libraries not accessible for students during these times, the e-Library provides a repository of English classic titles, age-appropriate storybooks, eLearning films, and other resource items that can be watched online or downloaded for later use.

“We want to promote the love of reading among the youth so they may achieve their full potential. Reading helps strengthen the brain and build vocabulary, and provides the needed mental exercise for a better understanding of the written word, especially a widely-used foreign language like English,” Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisanto said.

More than 10.5 million unique users all over the country access the DepEd Commons which has 4,762 learning resources available.

DepEd Undersecretary Pascua encourages students, parents and educators to use DepEd Commons as a source of supplementary in distance learning.

The access is free of data charge with the help of telecommunication companies, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

The DepEd Commons is spearheaded by the Information and Communications Technology Service headed by Director Abram Y.C. Abanil, under the Administration Strand led by Undersecretary Alain Del B. Pascua and Assistant Secretary Salvador Malana III. It is part of the Public Schools of the Future (PSOF) Framework of the Administration Strand under the leadership of Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones.
