History of CebuLitFest

The fascinating history of CebuLitFest began in 2014 when Hendri Go, a Manila-based Cebuano theater director, and Hope Sabanpan Yu, a short story writer, created this cultural event. The inaugural festival featured talks by esteemed Filipino-American writers Cecilia Brainard, Linda Faigao-Hall, and Lawrence Ypil.

Initially planned for three weeks, they opted for a condensed format, hosting all three talks in a single day. Over time, they expanded the festival to include additional events, such as the cherished open mic sessions, which remain vital to today’s gathering.

The festival found its home at the Activity Center in Ayala Center Cebu, a premier shopping destination. The event offers a perfect stage to exhibit Cebuano art and literature to a broader audience, especially for enthusiastic young artists eager to present their creations publicly.

Over time, the festival has flourished into a lively hub where writers and artists gather to display their craft and engage with their supporters. Cebu Lit Fest has undoubtedly become a significant venue, nurturing creativity, fostering artistic expression, and impacting Cebu’s cultural scene.
