THE Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) opened Wednesday, September 11, at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.  It is open until Sunday, September 15 from 10am to 8pm.

The MIBF, which is on its 40th run, is the largest and longest running book fair in the Philippines.  It has over 100 local and foreign publishers and booksellers and thousands of books at discounted prices.  The event also has seminars, book launching, and book signings sessions scheduled.

A list of exhibitors is posted at the entrance hall and a map of the exhibit areas are available at all the entrances.  Tickets for the events are priced at P35 for regular attendees and P25 for students, senior citizens, and PWDs.

If you plan to go to the fair, here are some tips to make your experience an easy one:

  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  The exhibit areas cover both first and second floors.  So there will be a bit of walking.
  • Bring your own reusable bags.  Not all booths use bags with handles, especially for the small purchased items.  Having your own bag will be helpful in carrying all those small bags.
  • Come early.  There are booths who have early bird deals.  You can score additional discounts to some of the books.
  • Free tickets/passes.  Participating bookstores give out free tickets to the event.  You can check out their website or visit their branches to score free tickets.  Also, if you decide you want to come back the next day, there are also booths who gladly hand out free tickets.  All you have to do is ask.
  • Get stamped on your way out.  To avoid having to pay another entrance fee in the second floor exhibit area (or vise versa), make sure to have your wrist stamped before you exit.

Here are some pictures from the first day of the fair.
