The National Library of the Philippines (NLP) recently donated books and computers to 44 BRCs in Calapan City. The city government‘s affiliated centers received donations at the Calapan City Pavilion.

Equal Access to Library Resources in Lumangbayan

Rowena Mallari, the barangay chairperson of Lumangbayan, expressed her appreciation for the donation of library resources. She said that while many people are engrossed in technology and social media, others still crave books. According to her, with the BRCs in place, everyone can access the resources regardless of status.

Promoting Education, Literacy, and Community Development

During the event, lawyer Reymund Al Ussam, city administrator, emphasized that libraries, including BRCs, are crucial in promoting education, literacy, and community development. As libraries adapt and evolve in the digital age, they remain valuable resources for people from all walks of life. They provide access to information, foster lifelong learning, and support personal growth.

Public Library Day: Investing in Public Libraries is Investing in People’s Lives

March 9 is Public Library Day, celebrated for 64 years with the theme “Investing in Public Libraries is Investing in People’s Lives.” Republic Act 7743 provides for the establishment of libraries and BRCs in congressional, city, and municipal areas.
